Experience wolves and other epic North American wildlife in their winter habitat on this amazing Yellowstone tour! Witness the 'American Serengeti' (considered to be the best place to view wolves on Earth) like few ever do on this small group eco-tour adventure. Your excursion begins in Bozeman, Montana, where you will spend the next 4 days with a professional, local guide and naturalist exploring in a small vehicle (suburban or larger vehicle). You will traverse Yellowstone National Park in search of wildlife such as wolves, elk, bison, mule deer, moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, bald eagles, fox, and coyotes.

Guests will have ample photo opportunities to capture the wondrous winter wildlife and landscape of Yellowstone, and should expect to be getting in and out of the vehicle throughout the day to view wildlife. Binoculars and scope will be provided on each tour to view wildlife that is far away. Lodging and select meals will be provided throughout the tour.

Day 1: Bozeman to Yellowstone National Park
8 a.m to 9 a.m. — Your guide picks you up at your hotel in Bozeman to head to Yellowstone National Park. On the way, stop for wildlife and winter scenery photo opportunities. Here, you may see bald eagles, golden eagles, bison, bighorn sheep, pronghorn antelope, elk, mule deer, white-tailed deer, and coyote.

Overnight stay at Best Western (or similar accommodation) in Gardiner, Montana

Day 2: Gardiner to Cooke City (B)
Depart your hotel at 5 a.m. — for guests to have their best chances at seeing wolves we'll depart early and eat breakfast in the field while looking for wolves. The northern range of Yellowstone is where wolves were first reintroduced in 1995 to bring the ecosystem back into its natural balance and has been called one of the best places on Earth to view wolves. Other wildlife you may see are bison, elk, mule deer, bighorn sheep, pronghorn antelope, coyote, red foxes, bald eagles, and golden eagles.

Overnight stay at Super 8 (or similar accommodation) in Cooke City, Montana

Day 3: Wildlife in the morning, afternoon of leisure (B)
Depart your hotel at 5 a.m. for game drives. Your first pack territory will be the Lamar Canyon pack. You will post up, drink warm drinks, and wait for the light to present what the morning has to offer. Guides will be communicating with other guides and wolf researchers in the area to offer you the best sightings available for the day. By 11 a.m. you will head back to your hotel for an opportunity to choose from a variety of activities, including an afternoon ski or snowshoe trip (booked by customer, not included), enjoy your mountain cabin, or an afternoon wildlife viewing into Yellowstone National Park.

Overnight stay at Super 8 (or similar accommodation) in Cooke City, Montana

Day 4: Cooke City to Bozeman (B)

Our service begins upon your arrival at the Bozeman, Montana, where we provide lodging at the Gran Tree Hotel. The hotel provides shuttles to and from the airport and the lively Downtown of Bozeman. We encourage you to rest up; the adventure begins tomorrow!

The following morning, your guides will meet you in the lobby, and we will begin our journey. We will pass through the historic town of Livingston and then through the picturesque Paradise Valley before arriving in the quaint mountain town of Gardiner. Lunch will be provided in Gardiner. During the afternoon, we will have the opportunity to explore the ancient geological formations of the Mammoth Terraces and view the abundant wildlife that spend the winter in the lower elevation areas around Mammoth Hot Springs and the Gardiner River Canyon. We then return to your accommodations and dinner at the Wonderland Lodge, a newly opened eco-lodge and café serving gourmet organic meals, with Vegan and Gluten Free options.

The next morning, your guides will meet you in the lobby, and our adventure will continue into the depths of Yellowstone’s true Winter Wonderland on a specialized over-snow vehicle called a Snow Coach. The destination will be the Upper Geyser Basin, home to the Snow Lodge, our accommodation for the next 3 nights. Along with the cozy Obsidian Dining Room, where meals will be served and provided for the next 3 days, the Snow Lodge offers spectacular views of the world’s most famous geyser: Old Faithful.

Over the next several days, your professional naturalist guides will lead the way through many of Yellowstone’s renowned highlights, including: The Mud Volcano, Upper, Midway and Lower Geyser Basins, the Firehole, Madison, Gibbon and Yellowstone Rivers, Yellowstone Lake, Hayden Valley, and of course, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone! Our route is specially designed to arrive at each location at the time of day when the lighting is most dramatic upon the landscape, or when the rime ice crystals (caused by freezing condensation from nearby steaming hot springs) are at their best. Activities will include walking through the geyser basins, photographing and learning about the amazing varieties of thermophiles, algae, and features which all showcase the super volcano. Your guides will use their expert skills to be on the lookout for wildlife at all times, including the Wapiti Lake Pack of wolves, which currently has 21 members. Bison, otters, bobcats and countless other creatures may also be found.

After your days of unforgettable adventure in the interior, you will be toured back to Mammoth, Gardiner, and the Wonderland Lodge, for the last evening’s dinner and sharing of the photos and memories which will last a lifetime.

On your departure, you and your fellow travelers will say ‘farewell’ and ‘until next time’ to Yellowstone and its wonders, and be shuttled back to the Bozeman airport or your desired hotel.
